When the Marketing Director of this leading consumer durables retailer went on a planned absence, the company decided that the most appropriate solution would be to bring on board an
interim manager to cover this important role.
Alium found an experienced
interim Marketing Director to take over every aspect of the role and help improve trading performance to achieve existing corporate objectives.
The
interim management professional introduced the first stages of a category management and initiated significant system changes. The rationalisation of a number of different store profiles (ranges within stores) was introduced to minimise stock costs and provided better data to support management decision-making. Together with the buying team, the
interim manager also carried out a full product analysis against the competitors, enabling the increase or decrease in product pricing as appropriate.
All of this was achieved while managing a planned reduction in marketing budget without loss of impact, developing and launching an e-commerce product catalogue and supporting the launch of 20 new stores in 8 months. As the interim Marketing Director approached the end of his assignment, the executive then worked with the returning director to complete a full revision of the department structure.
