Assessment for Selection
and Development

A Focused Approach

Are you recruiting, and trying to choose between the top candidates? Perhaps you want to help existing executives and managers develop further professionally, managerially or entrepreneurially?

Whatever your executive-level goals, Alium’s Assessment for Selection and Development services use questionnaires and tests to give you vital insights into your existing executives, managers and candidates – ensuring you use them to their full potential.

Removing Speculation

Psychological questionnaires and tests examine the enduring characteristics of an individual and identify how that person compares with others. These provide valid and reliable information in place of speculation based on conjecture. At Alium we select appropriate and proven measures and tests from a range of leading sources. Knowing a person’s managerial and leadership qualities and verbal, spatial and numerical reasoning abilities will provide you with a sound basis from which to judge if an individual will be suitable for the demanding requirements of a senior role.

In selection, the assessment of short-listed candidates will enable you to select the most suitable person, understanding from the start the individual’s strengths, limitations and development needs. For development, meanwhile, such information provides a firm basis for a practical development plan.

How Alium’s Assessment for Selection and Development works

Assessment for Selection and Development relies predominantly on the use of questionnaires and tests. Our team will select from a variety of measures to meet your needs and to provide valuable information during assessment. These measures include:

  • Personality questionnaires, which employ psychometric analysis to determine a person’s managerial, leadership, and other qualities
  • Verbal tests, which examine a person’s ability to argue a case, respond readily to counter arguments, and deal with closely argued debates
  • Spatial ability tests, which demonstrate sound business analysis and strategic thinking, the ability to identify trends and patterns in complex information, and the capacity to switch between different levels and contexts of analysis
  • Numerical reasoning tests, which assess a person’s ability to evaluate, understand and interpret complex and detailed figures.

In a selection situation, the outcomes can be used to make a final decision between similar, short-listed candidates. We discuss the results with our client and provide feedback to each person, spending additional time explaining the results and implications to the successful individual.

In development situations, we provide feedback and interpret the results with each individual, and then hold three-way psychologist-client-candidate meetings, where we agree the key issues and prepare an initial development plan.

Candidates will be thoroughly briefed on the process, and will have the chance to ask any questions. We present each candidate assessment in a complete, concise report and discuss it with you as appropriate.
